Suzanne Delap, Ed.S. in School Psychology

Suzanne works with kids 10-18 years old to help with testing, problem solving for school placement and how to ask for and utilize strategies for academic success.

After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, I decided to pursue a career in healthcare.  I enjoyed working with others, and so pharmaceutical and medical sales were great starting points for me.  I was able to work with psychiatrists and physicians who were experts in treating children and adolescents with a variety of needs.  While launching a new medication for ADHD, I found that I was drawn to the psychological issues related to learning and social/emotional development.  My interest led me to the mental health field, and as a result, I went on to obtain my Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado.  Currently, I am a registered psychotherapist in the state of Colorado.

Since 2007, I have worked with students from pre-k through high school, with a particular focus on early intervention as a key to successful outcomes.  My focus involves analyzing and assessing a student’s situation from a holistic perspective, including information from both home and school environments in order to gain the most comprehensive view.  I believe that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be useful in determining the best behavioral and academic interventions for students who may need additional supports in the classroom, yet I also feel that any approach should be tailored to meet the needs of the individual client.

In addition to my experience working in the schools, I am an elected board member of the Colorado Society of School Psychologists (CSSP).  My role on the board allows me to continue to develop as a practitioner, while also allowing me to advocate for the evolving needs of students throughout the state.   On the personal front, my husband and I like to spend as much time as possible with our two young boys, who often present us with their own evolving needs.
